Komasa Ichigo - Japanese Gin
- 0.50 L
- 79.90 € / L
A gin from Japan, focused on red fruit flavors. The base of the gin is sochu, and each ingredient is infused separately. Juniper berries are combined with botanicals such as local strawberry, raspberry, and basil. The addition of basil brings a lovely freshness, which subtly complements the deliciousness of the red fruits.
Komasa Jyozo is a Japanese company founded in 1883, located in Kagoshima Prefecture in the far south of the Japanese archipelago. It is a company renowned for the quality of its shochus, which is a traditional Japanese alcohol made from the distillation of rice, barley, or other products. With over 130 years of expertise in distillation, the company created its own Komasa Jyozo distillery in 2018. It develops new spirits, including gin. The distillery's geographical location in a particularly mountainous environment with its own unique flora and fauna allows it to benefit from a variety of important plants, which is a real asset in the development of gin. Komasa gins are made locally with regional products. This introduces us to new, unique aromatic profiles with great freshness. We have gins produced with green tea and local strawberry, but especially with the smallest mandarin variety in the world, the "Sakurajima Komikan". It is the noblest and most prized Komitan in Japan due to its tender and juicy flesh. The harvest takes place between late November and late December. The trees grow on the volcanic soil of Mount Sakurajima, a volcano on the island of Kyushu, still active with its last major eruption in 1914. The distillery's experience, the environment, and a choice of quality raw materials make these products essential to discover.
