Traditional Cuban rum, made from molasses rum and aguardiente. Modern because it's made from "aguardiente" aged for 4 years instead of the minimum of 2. Molasses rum is aged for an average of 15 years in bourbon and sherry casks. Blended and aged for 6 months, the result is a smoother, rounder, deeper, and more intense rum.
Cuba, an island paradise known for its music, its art of living, its cigars, and its rum. The latter is closely linked to the Cuban government, which entirely controls its production and distribution through two state-owned companies.
Santissima Trinitad belongs to the state-owned company Tecnoazucar. The Cuban rum designation is governed by well-defined rules. The molasses must come exclusively from Cuba, and distillation is carried out exclusively in column stills. But the main uniqueness lies in its composition. It must be composed of molasses rum and aguardiente. All of this is overseen by Maestro Roneros assigned to each distillery.
Arguardiente is a "sugar cane brandy." Distillation is carried out up to 75% alcohol. This results in a lower alcohol content than rum. This makes for a rawer, more powerful spirit. This aguardiente must then be aged for at least two years. Here, Santissima Trinitad chooses to age its aguardiente for four years in barrels.
After blending, Santissima Trinitad rums are softer and rounder than Cuban rums which are generally quite intense and strong.
