Latin American rum

Latin America and the Greater Antilles are the original birthplace of rum. It was on these lands that sugarcane was first cultivated on a large scale, that the first sugarcane distillates appeared in the 17th century, and that the major styles which still dominate the global market today were shaped. Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama and Nicaragua, each of these countries has developed its own identity, a recognisable style and production methods rooted in its history and culture. At My French Comptoir, we explore these regions to bring you a selection that reflects the diversity of this vast birthplace of rum.
